VCAP-DCA Update

It has been a while since I wrote a post with some of the latest things on the VCAP-DCA exam, so here it is.

After noticing an issue with one of the sections of the blueprint, it came to my attention and was confirmed by Jon Hall with VMware that the blueprint is based on vSphere 4.1, however the labs are currently 4.0. If you are planning on taking the exam soon, then nothing to worry about, you will just need to keep in mind that some of the blueprint will not apply to the lab you take. If you are planning on taking it sometime next year though, be aware that the lab will be updated to 4.1 at some point and you may be tested on those items.

It also looks like the first set of VCAP-DCA certifications have been awarded to those who took it as part of the Beta program.  A lot of well known individuals on the list including several who have their VCDX already.

The second VCAP-DCA brownbag took place last Wednesday and the vMA appliance was covered. I felt this was a good topic as it not only was an objective for the exam, but is crucial to being able to quickly manage several hosts, which may help with the speed at which you can finish the exam. As others have posted in their exam experience, it appears finishing all 40 questions is nearly impossible and it is a lot of work to be done in the four hour window. You can view the brownbag and sign up for the next one here.

I have finished studying for all sections of the VCAP-DCA exam now and have posted study notes for the final section. You can find them at  http://www.seancrookston.com/vcap-dca/ Additionally there is also now a link to a complete PDF version of the notes.

I will likely make one more edit as I discover anything else over the next couple weeks, but after that I will leave behind the online version of the document as a place where those studying can comment and add on to my notes. I’ve had some interest in collaborating on a study guide but unfortunately I won’t have the time over the next several weeks and after that I will back away to avoid opening my big mouth and saying something I shouldn’t and violating the NDA.
